Utah State received donations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Donors in 27 Utah counties gave to USU, with the highest total amount of $10,518,678 in gifts coming from 2,627 donors in Cache County. Salt Lake County with $10,366,957 from 764 donors and Davis County with $2,960,645 from 561 donors rounded out the top three. Outside of Utah, the top three states in total dollars donated were California, with $4,469,422 donated; Idaho, with $3,982,654 donated; and Washington, with $3,148,784 donated.

Purpose and Passion: Working Together Solidifies Gift from USU Alum
USU alum Jim Ratcliff
Ask anyone who has spent time on a university campus “What created the most impact during your college experience?” and they often answer “it was the people and places that mattered the most.” Graduates from Utah State would answer no differently. Great researchers in facilities equipped for discoveries and innovative learning, professors inspiring a student’s career choice, catching up with a friend on the Quad after a morning of classes, creating life-long connections with those who support and encourage you long after graduation. These are the people and places that make the difference.
This was certainly true for USU alum Jim Ratcliff, who learned as an undergraduate that gaining knowledge is not the only outcome of earning a college degree — it’s the friends, the contacts, those who learn alongside you and those who teach you that ultimately impact who you become.
“Purpose brings meaning to one’s life,” Jim said. “Choosing the right university is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life because it has the potential to make you realize your purpose, spark a passion and find meaning in life.”
Jim’s love of learning inspired him to donate to USU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He wanted his gift to go to the area where it was most needed. Together, CHASS Dean Joe Ward and Jim decided his gift would support the Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching and Learning Center, a new building on USU’s campus that began construction this year.

Cache Valley Couple Treasured for Providing Aggie Family Experience for USU Athletes
From singing the Scotsman with a crowd of Aggies at Maverik Stadium, to cheering on the women’s soccer team, athletics events are an important rite of passage for Utah State University students.
Students and fans who cheer on the Aggies play an important role in the success of USU student athletes. With more than 400 athletes participating on USU’s 16 varsity teams every year, support for these athletes is critical to ensuring achievement both in the classroom and in their chosen sport. And for USU community member Mike Kohler and his wife, Juanita, a former USU employee, supporting Aggie athletes and USU Athletics has become a life-long passion.
There has been one common denominator for the couple’s charity throughout the years and that is USU Athletics.
“Mike and Juanita are truly incredible,” said USU alumni couple James ’07, ’08 MBA, a former USU football player (2003-2007) and Heather Heinrich ’10 Bohm, a former USU gymnast (2006-2010). “Not only do they support so many different activities at Utah State, but they have welcomed so many student athletes to be a part of their family. From attending games, both home and away, to hosting Dutch Oven tailgates and post competition hugs, they made our time at Utah State special. They are always our first phone call when we plan a trip back to Logan. They are much more than Aggie fans, they are the definition of True Aggies and we feel so privileged to have them in our lives.”

USU Alum Establishes Scholarship Endowment to Provide Enhanced Student Research Opportunities
USU created such an impact on the Rangesan (Rang) Narayanan and Judi Houston Rangesan, that in late 2022, Rang funded an endowment in memory of Judi, who died in 2020.Students at Utah State University are encouraged to take advantage of every opportunity to make the most of their college experience. Research, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, is at the core of USU’s land-grant mission and an important component of the Aggie identity.
For alumnus Rangesan (Rang) Narayanan, Utah State University offered him an education that allowed him to create his own unique focus while earning both a master’s and doctorate in two disciplines. The Tamil Nadu, India native graduated from USU’s College of Engineering with a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1973. During the last year of his master’s program, Rang enrolled in the economics doctoral program offered by the College of Business (Jon M. Huntsman School of Business). The dual-degree role provided him the opportunity to work as a research assistant in the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL). Rang continued at the UWRL throughout his doctoral program and the research he conducted became the focus of his dissertation research.
While Rang dedicated himself to his research during his time at USU, the connections he made, both personally and professionally, would forever impact his life. In 1977, Rang married Judith (Judi) Carol Houston Rangesan, a USU alum and classmate from his doctoral program.
The couple, who enjoyed life in Nevada, never kept USU far from their thoughts. The education, memories and connections were invaluable to both of them. They both give credit to the incredible faculty members who inspired them to discover and pursue their professional passions and interests. In fact, USU created such an impact on the couple, that in late 2022, Rang funded an endowment in memory of Judi, who died in 2020.
