D. Craig Aston Park

The D. Craig Aston Park at 1400 N. 800 East in Logan sits adjacent to the Dale and Adele Young Greenhouse on the Utah State University campus. Aston, a retired senior lecturer in the Plants, Soils and Climate Department, worked at USU for more than 25 years. Naming of the park in his honor in 2009, was a complete surprise to Aston.

Aston owned a landscaping company and worked with his students to improve the land where the park sits. The park includes a pavilion, barbecue area and walking path and is used by the public and for College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences’ events.

Noelle Cockett, dean of the College of Agriculture at the time of its naming, said the park was named in Aston’s honor after the enthusiastic suggestion of several College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences’ faculty members and student body officers. Nearly 200 people attended the ceremony, including several of Aston’s family from out of town who traveled to Logan for the surprise.
