Janet Quinney Lawson (1922-2008) Building

The Janet Quinney Lawson building is one of the oldest buildings on Utah State University’s campus, but has undergone many changes. It did not always house the Information Technology department, as it does today.

Janet Quinney Lawson was a major benefactor to the university and she helped in the renovation process, which cost around $3 million. During her lifetime, she undertook multiple projects on the university campus that included the Janet Quinney Lawson Building and also the Janet Quinney Lawson Theater.

Originally built and designed as a Quonset hut, the Janet Quinney Lawson building was used as an airport hangar during World War II. While not many people know the original purpose of the building, it has served several different needs throughout the history of USU. It was once a photo lab and was at one time a firehouse.

Three-fourths of the building belong to USU’s S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Natural Resources. There are several offices housed in the south end of the building and there is a small section where USU’s Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice (former Center for Persons with Disabilities) repair items like wheelchairs.
