Maverik Stadium
Originally named for E. Lowell “Dick” Romney, Utah State University’s all-time most-winning football coach and former athletics director, Romney Stadium was officially dedicated on Sept. 27, 1969. The first game in the stadium came a season earlier in 1968.
On April 11, 2015, Utah State University and Maverik Inc. entered a long-term naming rights partnership, renaming Romney Stadium to Maverik Stadium as part of a massive renovation.
Maverik fuels adventures in more than 350 locations across 11 western states, making it the largest independent fuel marketer in the Intermountain West.
Maverik started when a young man from Wyoming opened a business in his home town. In 1928, 20-year-old Reuel Call opened a two-pump gas station in Afton, Wyoming with money he earned from renting roller skates. The business soon grew, and he started providing fuel to surrounding towns and ranches.

USU Credit Union Concourse Level
Level 1
USU Credit Union was founded in the halls of Utah State University in Logan, Utah in 1957 by economic professors Vernon Israelson and Evan Murray. Originally chartered with ten members, the credit union was created to provide banking services for Utah State University employees and their families. In the early years, deposits and transactions literally moved from room to room and from drawer to drawer as the professors, who doubled as loan officers and accountants, worked to keep overhead costs low.
In 1962, the credit union hired its first full-time employee Doris Thorpe. As director of marketing, Thorpe’s involvement in the credit union sparked tremendous growth in those early years. In 1975, ground broke to begin construction for the credit union’s first off-campus branch. The building was completed in 1978.

Level 3
Larry W. Miller was born on July 16, 1937, in Logan, Utah. As a very young man in Hyrum, Utah, Larry was taught the value of hard work. He was up early every morning milking cows and then milking them again later in the day. In the summers, he was hard at work in Hyrum and the family farm in Blue Creek. Larry loved planting and harvest time and never missed an opportunity to be on his John Deere tractor at the farm.
This love for hard work enabled Larry to establish Miller Transport in Hyrum, Utah, in 1965, with his two cousins. He also worked at and retired from Thiokol. In 1982, he left Miller Transport and established the L. W. Miller Transportation company in Logan, Utah. He started with four employees and two trucks and it has grown to hundreds of employees and trucks. He eventually established diesel repair facilities in North Salt Lake City and Tremonton, Utah. At one time he owned several convenience stores throughout Utah. Larry was a visionary who saw opportunities others didn’t see.
Larry made time to contribute to the community and state by serving in leadership positions and on many boards, including the Utah State University Foundation Board.
USU Credit Union Suite Level
Level 4
In 1984, the USU Credit Union opened a small branch in the Macey’s grocery store at the south end of Logan. When Macey’s closed that location in 1992, the credit union purchased a building at 198 North Main Street in downtown Logan. As credit union membership grew, more new branches followed in Smithfield, Providence, Brigham City, North Logan and the Welcome Center on the Utah State University Campus.
With the intent of providing members with a more robust portfolio of products and services, along with a statewide branch network, USU Credit Union strategically merged with Goldenwest Credit Union in 2013. USU Credit Union retains its name and USU-affiliated brand as a Division of Goldenwest Credit Union.
