Who We Are
Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, Chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team
Dr. Olsen earned his B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in Family and Human Development with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University. He earned his Ph.D. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University.
He has spent the last 34 years working in multiple areas of Student Affairs at three different universities. He continues to be involved in campus wide collaboration to achieve University goals regarding recruitment, retention and diversity. He has extensive training and experience in risk management, campus safety, and suicide prevention. He currently chairs the University’s Behavioral Intervention, threat Assessment Team.
He is a true Blue Aggie who served as student body president at USU and is a founding member of the USU Admissions Ambassadors. He is married to an Aggie and his two daughters are graduates of Utah State. Between the four of them they have earned 7 degrees from USU. He enjoys hiking, hunting, reading and listening to old school country and cowboy music.
Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, Vice Chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team
Krystin Deschamps (pronounced DAY-shaw) is the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and has been in this role since 2011. Prior to that, she served as the retention advisor at Utah State University, receiving a Robins Award for her work with students. Krystin earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Montana, where she developed a passion for educational policy, specifically as it relates to students. Next, she earned her graduate degree from the University of Utah in educational leadership and policy, with an emphasis in higher education. In that program, she focused her academic interests on the practical, ethical, and legal considerations of college student mental health.
In her time at Utah State University, Krystin has committed herself to helping students who are facing challenges. She has an affinity for helping them to find paths forward. She serves as the vice chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team; as a member of the CARE Team; a member of the JED Campus Mental Health Steering Committee, of which she serves as the chair of the Policies and Procedures subcommittee; a member of the Implementation and Coordination Subcommittee of the Sexual Assault Task Force; a member of the Sexual Assault Coordinated Community Response Team; and a proud member of the Aggies Think, Care, Act Committee. Krystin is also an Ally on Campus and an Upstander.
Krystin likes to have fun and to experience awe. A few of her favorite things are being in the forest hiking or skiing, being on the river fly-fishing or floating, experiencing antiquity, and eating tomatoes from her garden.
Asst. Director for Student Conduct and Community Standards, CARE Team Chair
Chelsey is the Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards and oversees the CARE Office. She works with students of concern and is a member of the University's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and Chair of the Connect, Assist, Refer, Empower (CARE) Team. She also serves as the Assessment co-chair of the Student Experience Assessment Team (SEAT) for the Division of Student Affairs.
She joined the CARE Office in August of 2020. She earned her doctorate in Psychology from Pacific University in Oregon and her BS in Psychology from the University of Vermont.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, backpacking, fly fishing (and tying), rock climbing and photography.
CARE Manager
Gayle joined the CARE Office in May of 2023 as a CARE Manager working with students of concern. She loves being on campus and working in an academic setting. She has been a lifelong student, completing two bachelor’s degrees and one master’s degree from Utah State University. She is currently working on her Master of Social Work (MSW) and hopes to one day provide social services to the Deaf community throughout the US. Gayle started her social work journey as a shelter manager and advocate providing trauma-informed services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Gayle absolutely loves traveling to new places and meeting people from all walks of life. Her current goal is to visit all 50 states before turning 50.
CARE Manager
Allison joined the Utah State University May of 2023 as a CARE Manager with a statewide focus. She has over a decade of experience in behavioral intervention, threat/risk assessment, case management and student support. She attended the University of Utah, obtaining a B.S. in Sociology with a Criminology Certificate and began working in the Office of the Dean of Students. Despite early dreams of becoming a Special Agent with the FBI , she quickly developed a passion for working in the educational setting and the excitement of being part of a campus community.
Allison has extensive experience in providing guidance and resources for individuals going through Title IX processes; university conduct processes; policy interpretation and creation; and safety evaluation and strategic planning after a campus crisis or emergency. In early 2020 she left “the U” to consult and train other higher education professionals in the field which created an incredible opportunity to meet fantastic folks dedicated to prioritizing safety and well-being. But the draw of campus life kept calling.
Allison is thrilled to part of Utah State University, working directly to serve students and the broader campus community across the state of Utah. When not working, she enjoys reading (often by way of Audio books), growing various vegetables, traveling, spending time with family and spoiling her mini schnauzer, Skeeter. She is always up for a little adventure, learning new things and game nights.
CARE Coordinator
Heather Van Dyke joined the CARE Office in August of 2023 and has a degree in Marriage and Family Studies with a Pre-Clinical emphasis. She is passionate about mental health and well-being. Outside of work, Heather enjoys hiking in beautiful Logan Canyon, gardening, playing Hawaiian football, and relaxing with a good book or vinyl record.
