Description: Established in 1983, the Neville C. and Annie P. Hunsaker Mathematics Scholarship Fund has helped support many undergraduate mathematics students in their academic endeavors. Annie earned her M.S. in Mathematics from U.C. Berkeley, where she and Neville met as graduate students. Neville Hunsaker’s lifelong vocation was to teach at the collegiate level. In 1941, he finally fulfilled that dream by accepting the position to teach in the Mathematics Departments at Utah State, where he became Department Head for 29 years. While at USU, he made it his goal to develop an M.S. degree program in mathematics and was the thesis advisor to the first graduate students.

Neville Hunsaker took pride in helping teachers thrive in their classrooms. Possibly one of his most noteworthy successes at Utah State was gaining the financial support for secondary school science teachers from the National Science Foundation. This launched the Math Department into a period of more than 20 years of conducting very beneficial programs funded by the N.S.F.

Brooks Ogborn Student Teacher Rent Alleviation Program (STRAP) Scholarship:

Ogborn Graphic

Description: I graduated high school knowing that I wanted to teach. I realized that education careers were not known for their high-paying salaries, so I worked tirelessly to get a scholarship to pay for college. Through scholarships, I was able to pay tuition without taking any loans, and through a few part-time jobs and some generosity from my parents, I was just able to squeeze by on the rent. With the generous help of my professors, the scholarship office, and my parents, I finished my student teaching without any student loan debt. I am now working full time as a high school math teacher in the valley, and I would like to pay that generosity forward to student teachers in need of financial help.
