3. Intercultural competence
Engaging thoughtfully and fluidly across cultures begins with one’s own self-awareness. Through the development of this competency, you will deepen your cultural agility through a mix of three introspective courses in which you learn about others while reflecting upon your own self in relation to others. The goal is for you to build your capacity to shift perspective and behavior around relevant cultural differences.

To complete this competency, you will need to take three courses: one required core course and two relevant electives. You will have the option to engage in a substantive intercultural experience(s) in place of one or both electives.

  1. Required Core Course: CMST 3330: Intercultural Communication

Students learn how communication shapes culture and how culture, in turn, affects communication. Students develop active intercultural communication skills in professional and personal contexts.

    1. Electives: Select two relevant electives

In addition to the required core course, you will need to take two more courses in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion or more globally-oriented classes such as: International Development, Area Studies (African Studies, Latinx Studies, etc.), Economics of Poverty, Peace Studies, Cultural Anthropology, Emerging Markets, World Literature, etc.  The Peace Corps Prep Coordinator can help you identify two additional electives or a substantive intercultural study experience.

4. Professional and leadership development
Every spring and fall semester, Peace Corps Prep students will be invited to attend a one-hour workshop with the Peace Corps Prep Coordinator and the Regional Peace Corps Recruiter where they will receive interview and resume tips and feedback. Please indicate the semester/year in which you plan to participate in this workshop.

Describe a leadership experience that you intend to pursue:
(For example, leading a work or volunteer project, serving on the executive board of a student organization, or organizing a big campus event.)
