August 2021 Newsletter

Colleagues,

I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for August:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research snapshot titled “Utah Girls, Young Women, and Physical Activity.” Thanks to my co-researchers Kim Buesser and Rachel Myrer for their fabulous work on this snapshot. In addition, here is a new infographic that summarizes the findings. Also, a few weeks ago we released our fourth (of six) COVID-19 research and policy briefs titled, “The Impact of COVID-19 on Utah Women and Work: Caregiver Experiences (with Marin Christensen, UWLP Associate Director).

Second, we have two free events coming up (RSVP online) sponsored by the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, USU Extension, and the Utah Education Network (UEN):

  1. A Conversation on the Impact of COVID-19 on Utah Women and Work (Aug. 25, Noon-1:15pm, Virtual)
  2. A Fireside Chat with Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson on Women and Leadership (Oct. 1, Noon-1:15pm; RSVP to attend either at USU Brigham City Campus or online)

Third, in partnership with Utah Public Radio, we have released a new podcast titled “Stopping Violence Against Utah Girls & Women” that discusses how you can support survivors and how to do your part to protect girls and women from violence. The podcast features highlights from a February 2021 online Women’s Leadership Forum. I’m joined by Liliana Olvera-Arbon, Chris Yadon, Dr. Annie Isabel Fukushima, and Jennifer Campbell.

Fourth, we have also added a recently updated infographic titled “Cosmetic Surgery Among Utah Women.” The 2-page infographics are print-friendly and provide visual representation of the data and statistics found in the accompanying research snapshots. Thanks to Laura Middleton for her volunteer work updating and creating the infographics

Fifth, here are some of our partners’ upcoming events:

Sixth, the Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL), has several open seats for public members. If you are interested in serving on a board or commission, you can apply online.

Finally, check out the following editorials and articles from the last month:

Join us on the UWLP social media platforms: LinkedInFacebookTwitterInstagram, and YouTube. See the community calendar as well. Email uwlp@usu.edu to let us know you want to receive these updates to your own inbox if you received a forwarded email.

Enjoy August!
