September 2022 Newsletter

Colleagues,

I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for September:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research snapshot titled “Suicide Among Utah Girls and Women” (with Dr. Kristy Hodson, Dr. Chloe Bhowmick, and Cindy Jenkins) and an accompanying infographic. Additionally, we released a white paper a few weeks ago titled “Addressing Workplace Sexual Harassment: Public Policy Solutions for Utah” (with Katie Hudman, Trish Hatch, and Elise Johnson). Thanks to everyone involved in these publications.

Second, we have four free events coming up in the Fall (RSVP online):

  2. UWLP Book Club: How Women Rise By Sally Helgesen & Marshall Goldsmith (Two-session book club: Oct. 6 & Nov. 10, 12:00pm-1:00pm & 7:30pm-8:30pm; Virtual)

Third, we have a few resources to highlight this month:

Fourth, the UWLP is partnering with the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, the Governor’s One Utah Roadmap efforts, and the Women’s Business Center of Utah on the new “Inspire In Utah” campaign, which is an initiative to help support women entrepreneurs and women in the workplace at every level. As part of this campaign, “100 Companies Championing Women” focuses on recognizing and highlighting the stories of 100 Utah companies that offer family-friendly policies and practices, as well as women-specific initiatives known to impact the recruiting, hiring, retaining, and advancing of women employees, managers, and leaders. If you feel like your company is doing well on these things, please let your HR department know about this opportunity!

Fifth, in partnership with Tech-Moms and USU Extension, we have just released a new online course titled, “Relaunching Your Career for Women: Course 1.” This course helps prepare women transitioning from home back to the workforce and includes six modules: Challenges to Relaunch, Choosing a Path, Resumes for Relaunchers, LinkedIn for Beginners, Building Your Network, and Wrap-Up. Full engagement in this course will take approximately four hours, which includes reading short narratives, watching video clips, completing reflection activities, reviewing resource materials, and setting goals (Cost: $25.00).

Sixth, here are some of our partners’ upcoming events:
