May 2024 Newsletter: A Bolder Way Forward

A Bolder Way Forward Advocates,

Good morning! We have a number of announcements in this month’s A Bolder Way Forward (BWF) newsletter:

First, registration is still open for our second annual gathering on June 6, 2024 from 9:00am-2:00pm. Join us at Zions Bank Technology Center to celebrate the progress we have made this past year, hear the Lt. Governor share key remarks, listen to the amazing music of Jenny Oaks Baker, engage with spokes and impact teams during breakout sessions, and more!

Second, we have just released the final report of the Utah Women & Leadership Project’s fall study focused on setting a baseline for the 18 BWF spoke areas: Seven Top Opportunities for Utah Girls and Women. Four podcasts were also released this past month on this study in the following areas: Leadership Development, STEM Fields & Male Allyship, Health Across the Lifespan, and Finance & Entrepreneurship.

Third, several things have happened at the spoke level:

  • Working groups are forming in all spokes – reach out to the spoke’s coordinator to join the work on specific goals and efforts.
  • The STEM Fields spoke is seeking nominations for the Women Tech Awards - nominate a woman in a STEM career making a difference!
  • The Leadership Development Spoke also welcomes nominations of bold leaders in Utah for its Leadership Development Spotlight series.
  • A collaborative 6-spoke survey is being conducted by the workplace spokes to gain essential data on programs and benefits offered that impact women at companies in Utah. The results of this survey will help spokes to identify needs and track progress of bold goals. If your company or organization has over 100 employees, we would love to have you or a representative complete the survey and help us to obtain this vital information!

Fourth, last week, BWF county coalitions were set up in Juab, Millard, Piute, and Kane counties, which means 27 of 29 counties are now involved in BWF! We have the last two in the next week. If you know anyone in Rich County who would be interested in attending a community gathering, let Amy (amy.z.anderson@usu.edu) know. County coalitions are essential because grassroots is key to addressing local needs and getting the message to every community, neighborhood, and home.

Fifth, visit the BWF Events page to view all past and upcoming events from BWF spokes and partners, including:

Check out the UWLP community calendar for all events in Utah for girls and women. The UWLP also has a dedicated page that lists programs specifically for girls and young women (K-12).

Finally, learn more about A Bolder Way Forward with this video. If you are interested in a variety of areas, you can take this Interest Survey, and if your company/organization would like to get engaged, you can complete this Organizational Interest Survey. Join us on the BWF social media platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram. Subscribe at www.abolderwayforward.org to receive these updates to your own inbox if you received a forwarded email.

Share this newsletter to help spread the word. Now is the time, Utah is the place, for A Bolder Way Forward!
