Enrollment- Look here if you are looking for: number of enrolled students, demographics of students, and enrollment in programs (majors). Enrollment data is organized by Student. Each student is only counted once during each Semester. A snapshot of enrollment is taken at Day-15 and at the End-of-Term. USU's official "enrollment" for the year is taken from the fall semester Day-15 enrollment report, and represents the data reported to the U.S. Department of Education each year. The spring and summer Day-15 enrollment files are reported to the State of Utah.

Enrollment data includes: number of classes taken and Primary Major (Secondary Major is also available). Detail is provided at the level of the University, its colleges, and all departments. When using enrollment numbers, do not combine fall, spring, or summer numbers together for a year, as this will create an enrollment total with duplicates. To match official annual totals, always use the fall enrollment data.

Course- Data is grouped at the individual course and section levels. Look here if you are looking for information on classes taught per program. The course view provides details on Headcount, Student Credit Hours (SCH) and Full Time Equivalent (FTE). At the level of the individual course, additional details are available (e.g. instructor, method of instruction, etc.). The count of students are duplicated in these numbers because each student typically takes more than one class per semester. Courses are listed with: a course name; course number, section number and a cross listed code. If the course is listed with another they may be collapsed with a cross listed code; and, to avoid duplication, if a course has multiple instructors, one of these will be marked as the Primary Instructor.

Graduation- Data is listed by each degree conferred. If a student graduates with multiple degrees (e.g. multiple majors), they will be appear multiple times on the list. Graduation data is only released once a year and includes data for all 3 semesters: Summer, Fall and Spring. Data is listed by: type and overall level of degree; college, and department.


Glossary

Student
Duplicate- When a student appears in multiple categories, for example a student registered in both Logan Campus and Statewide course sections, there may be a "duplicate" count. When it is necessary to only count a student once (for example in student enrollments), duplicates are identified to avoid duplication of students in headcount numbers.

Fall Semester Snapshot- For standard reporting and comparison purposes, Fall semester enrollment is used. The fall semester snapshot is created on the 15th day of the semester.

Logan (Main)- A person registered in a Logan campus course section.

Statewide Campuses (formerly RCDE)- A person registered in a Statewide Campus and Distance Education course section.

USUE- A person registered in a Utah State University Eastern course section.

Courses
Budget Related Courses- Courses receiving funding through state appropriations.

Cross Listed Code- A code that allows different sections of a course to be listed individually; but can be "collapsed" back into one class. A cross listed code is frequently utilized with broadcast sections that must be reported separately, but are actually viewed as one instance of instruction.

Full time equivalent (FTE)- FTE is based on student credit hours and course level. It is obtained by dividing student credit hours by 15 for undergraduate level courses and by 10 for graduate level courses. FTE stands for Full-Time-Equivalent, an approximation of the number of students who would be enrolled full-time at the aforementioned credit hours. The formulae differ for Undergraduate/Graduate.

Primary Instructor- Each course must have at least one primary instructor. If a course is taught by a team, in order to avoid duplication in the course data, we filter by primary instructor.

Primary Major/Secondary Major- Primary Major is the first declared major from a student. In order to avoid duplication of student in the headcount, this is determined as the "official" major counted in student enrollments. A secondary major can also be listed, but is normally excluded from our enrollment reporting. Both majors would appear in the Graduation data when the student graduates, as outlined above.

Self Supporting Courses- Courses not funded through state appropriations.

Student Credit Hours (SCH)- A unit of measure that represents activity based on course section hour multiplied by student enrollment. One student taking 12 credit hours generates 12 SCH's. A three credit hour course section with an enrollment of five students would generate 15 SCH's.

Demographics
Categories developed in 1997 by the Federal Government that are used to describe groups to which individuals belong, identify with, or belong in the eyes of the community. The categories do not denote scientific definitions of anthropological origins. The designations are used to categorize U.S. citizens, resident aliens, and other eligible non-citizens. Individuals are asked to first designate ethnicity as:
