Web Typography

Font system

The USU template uses System UI fonts to allow optimum text rendering on every device and OS:

• Safari for macOS and iOS (San Francisco): -apple-system
• Chrome < 56 for macOS (San Francisco): BlinkMacSystemFont
• Windows: Segoe UI
• Android: Roboto

The basic web fallback is set to Helvetica Neue, Arial, and sans-serif.

Headings

Roboto Font

Roboto is used for headlines and general display type. It is advised to keep the heading size and weight consistent on your site.

Roboto Bold

Roboto bold is an optional font weight. It is advised to keep the heading size and weight consistent on your site.

Font sizes

The default font size across the USU template is 16px to follow current standards.

However, some pages require a larger font size to accommodate situations where they become hard to read, or the content layout benefits from a larger size. Such pages may be:

• Light text content
• News and story pages
• Custom landing pages

In these cases, the USU template offers an option to increase the font-size to 18px for body copy.
