Advising Appointments
Please note, advising appointments are for students who are currently admitted to USU. If you are an international applicant, not yet admitted, submit a request for information. If you have applied and paid the application fee, contact usuintl@usu.edu. If you have recently been admitted, please contact internationalstudents@usu.edu.

1. Password & Student ID

Visit myid.usu.edu to create the password for your Student ID. If you have any questions, follow these step-by-step instructions. You will need to do this to request your I-20. If you have difficulty after attempting to create your password, you can get help with a password reset.

2. Confirm Your Enrollment (select one)

Pay the Enrollment Deposit
(Coming to USU)

This is a $200 nonrefundable deposit. $150 is a prepayment of tuition and fees, and $50 covers new student services, including orientation.

Defer Your Admission
(Coming to USU later)

A deferral is for admitted students who have not started classes at USU, and need to delay their admission to a future semester.

Decline Your Offer
(Not coming to USU)

Declining your admissions offer withdraws your USU application, deactivates Admissions scholarships, and cancels your on-campus housing.

Pay your enrollment deposit to complete the following steps.

Enrollment Deposit Payment: This only applies to undergraduate students, NOT graduate students, for Fall 2023 semesters and later. Summer semester admissions are not available for international undergraduate students.

The enrollment deposit is a $200 nonrefundable deposit. $150 is a prepayment of tuition and fees, and $50 covers new student services, including orientation. Paying the deposit:

  • Is required of all admitted international undergraduate students before they begin the I-20 process
  • Confirms your intent to enroll
  • Secures your spot at USU
  • Allows you to sign a contract for on-campus housing; consideration is first come, first served. Reserve early because housing fills up quickly.

Fall Priority Deposit Deadline: April 1
Spring Priority Deposit Deadline: Nov 1

3. Sign a Contract for On-Campus Housing (optional)

If you plan to live on-campus, sign your housing contract early. On-campus housing fills up quickly and spaces are not guaranteed. Contracts in Logan are available to incoming students who pay the enrollment deposit. Living on-campus is not required for first-year students, but is recommended for international students. Applications for on-campus housing open:

  • Fall/Spring Semester Applications: Opens in October

4. I-20 Request

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Portal using your Student ID (A-Number) and password. Click on F/J Students and follow the instructions to upload your required documents for your I-20.

5. I-20 Shipping

Request your shipping label for your I-20, if you prefer the hard-copy I-20. (You will want to review these detailed instructions.) After your I-20 is ready we will ship it to you. Due to the pandemic, SEVP allows us to send your I-20 electronically. Let us know how you want to receive your I-20.

6. I-901 SEVIS Fee

Pay the I-901 Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee to activate your I-20/SEVIS record. Save a copy of your I-901 SEVIS fee receipt to show for your visa appointment and records.

7. Visa Interview & Preparation

8. Online Orientation & Register for Classes

Before you register for classes, you will need to complete the online orientation. Your online orientation will guide you on how to register for classes within MyUSU. Review the Academic & Registration Calendars for deadlines. For information about paying tuition and fees, visit the Registrar's Office website. For helpful information about your academics check the academic resources finder. Also, get tips on registering for classes.

9. Immunizations

USU health insurance meets all minimum requirements for F-1 and J-1 visa holders.

10. Transportation

Schedule your air travel and plan to arrive at the Salt Lake City International Airport.

USU is approximately 1.5 hours from the Salt Lake City International Airport. Do your best to arrive in Logan, Utah, when your housing accommodation is open. Make ground transportation arrangements with the Salt Lake Express shuttle from the airport to Logan, Utah, prior to your arrival. Visit the international arrival webpage for more information.

11. Arrival & Check-In

When you arrive at USU, you are required to first check-in online for the Office of Global Engagement using the ISSS Portal. (You can find a tutorial video to guide you through the process.)  Students transferring from another U.S. university or college are also required to check-in so that transfer paperwork can be completed. Also, complete the required online immigration orientation within the ISSS Portal online check-in (see tutorial video).

All international undergraduate students are required to attend our in-person orientation day.  Please plan to attend this orientation day as you make your travel arrangements.

The Fall 2024 semester in-person orientation will take place on Monday, August 19, 2024.

12. USU 1010: Connections

Connections is an academic course designed to ease your transition to Utah State University  and to prepare you for your college experience. Classes discuss the importance of resilience and how students can go about developing habits of mind that will help them professionally and personally throughout their lives. Connections helps you develop a support network of classmates, faculty, and staff to help you have a successful beginning to your academic experience.
