Exhibition
The Bear Lake Needs Assessment Documentation & Visualization Project, led by assistant professor Jared Ragland and USU photography students, captures the intersection of Bear Lake's natural ecology and human use through documentary photography. This collaborative project showcases research-driven imagery on key topics such as agriculture, water management, and development, while highlighting the vital work of USU researchers and local community partnerships. The exhibition will be featured at the Tippets and Eccles Gallery and in USU’s Special Collections and Archives. This work was created in partnership with USU’s Institute for Land, Water, and Air and funded by a Bear Lake Needs Assessment grant administered by Utah Forestry, Fire, and State Lands.
The USU Art + Design Annual Graduate Art Exhibition showcases emerging artists' innovative and diverse works across various disciplines. Each work reflects the unique vision and creative journey of the graduates, offering a compelling exploration of contemporary themes and artistic practices.

Five-Slide Friday is an informal get-together over lunch on (some) Fridays where faculty and students can present about their education, field of study, work experience, academic research, ASC project, new favorite data tool, etc., and answer questions. The objective is to help ease the friction that naturally occurs in interdisciplinary settings while helping both faculty and students learn and retool. Bring your lunch and, if you're presenting, remember that you can't prepare more than five slides!

The Music Box Concert Series: Chamber Music Concert

What is chamber music? How many members does the ensemble have? Come and learn more about this form of classical music, also known as "music of friends." USU students, members of the String Trio and Piano Quartet, will play for you and present their instruments.
Music Box Concerts are 30-45 minute programs presented by the USU Music Department students and guests. They are designed to provide young children access to live music concerts and are sponsored by the Music Department in the Caine College of the Arts and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Education Endowment.

An exhibition of half-scale fashion created by USU students in FCSE 3040, Advanced Clothing Studies: Patternmaking. Each design is inspired by a work of art on view at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art. A reception for the student designers will be held November 16, 2024 from 2-4pm. Front & Center Webinar: Balancing Support and Boundaries with Students

In this session we will cover the challenging task of how to be a caring supporter of students while setting healthy boundaries and attending to your own self-care. We will do exercises to increase intentionality and consistency in boundary setting; consider our verbal and nonverbal boundary cue behaviors; play a Kahoot game to see if we’re merging into the therapist lane; do active script work for responding to struggling students; and consider personal “policies” for maximizing student support and healthy boundary setting. We will also discuss how to refer to which resources when small and big mental health issues arise.

The food we eat significantly impacts the balance of bacteria in our gut which leads to either good or bad gut health. In this presentation, we will discuss the benefits of why having a healthy gut is important. We will also talk about dietary changes that can be made to increase the number of good bacteria in your gut! *Presentation will be recorded. USU Eastern, WILD 2400: Wildland Resources Techniques class will present their final research presentation at the Price Office of the Bureau of Land Management, BLM on Thursday, Nov. 21st from 9am-11am. Students in the Wildlife Ecology and Management major at USU Eastern will lead a group presentation. Students in this Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) and Research, Scholarship, & Creative Inquiry Intensive (RSCI) designated course will present their findings of a CURE (Classroom Undergraduate Research Experience). In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, MS Copilot, Dall-E, etc., as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address how they work and ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. Cranksgiving is a national annual bike race/food drive/scavenger hunt/party on bikes. After registering, you and your team of 2-4 people will meet at Aggie Blue Bikes (located at the junction of Military Science and the Fieldhouse) at 10am to receive instructions and a "manifesto" which will be your guide for the event. The manifesto will have a list of grocery stores to visit and a list of food items requested by the Cache Food Pantry. You and your team will plan a route, bike to the stores, and purchase the food on the list. There will also be bonus stops where you and your team must complete a challenge. Once you have everything, we will all meet at the Cache Food Pantry at 1pm to donate the food and for participants to get prizes. Registration for this event is free, but participants should anticipate spending upwards of $15 on groceries.

Canvas allows a teacher to create a "blueprint" course, where updates can be made just once and then synced to several associated courses. This can greatly ease the management of multiple versions of the same class. This workshop shows how to use and effectively manage blueprint courses.

Concerts are part of the band’s large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Participation in these events is a significant component of students’ grades, and the concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. All concerts are associated with one or more of the following band ensembles: MUSC 4700 Wind Orchestra, MUSC 3795 Wind Symphony, MUSC 3790 Symphonic Band, and MUSC 3785 Marching Band.

In a time when respectful dialogue and understanding are more essential than ever, we invite community members, leaders, and advocates to join us for an engaging panel dedicated to fostering civility and dignity across Utah. Tami Pyfer will discuss the Dignity Index, which serves as a powerful tool for measuring and promoting dignity in our interactions. This framework helps individuals and organizations assess their impact on others and encourages practices that uphold the inherent worth of every person. Becky Edwards will talk about her passion around electing responsive, thoughtful Utahns who will focus on civility and have complex policy conversations that focus on true governing. Civility and dignity are overarching topics important to A Bolder Way Forward (BWF). The BWF aims to inspire Utahns to engage in civil discourse and make meaningful connections across differences. To do this, we encourage Utahn’s across the state to focus on active listening, empathy, and respectful communication, which will pave the way for creating positive change in Utah.

The Ecology Center is honored to host Dr. Xiaofeng Xu, Principle Investigator of the Ecological Modeling and Integration Lab within the Biology Department at San Diego State University.
Dr. Xiaofeng Xu is a global change ecologist with a strong quantitative skill for ecological research. His major research interests are investigations of terrestrial biogeochemistry–climate feedback with a data-model integration approach. He is currently focusing on microbial macroecology and applications of ecological and evolutionary theories to understanding microbial contributions to carbon cycle and greenhouse gas flux in an Earth system modelling framework.

The word "muse" describes a source of inspiration. This annual music therapy concert aims to highlight the multi-faceted sources of inspiration for USU music therapy students both personally and professionally. In our field of study, we often talk about “self as instrument”, or rather, being the instrument of change within the therapeutic relationship. During MUSES, we get to shift our focus to also celebrate our external musical skills and instruments as extensions of ourselves, and the tools by which we get to share creative self-expression with the world. Concert goers will enjoy original compositions in addition to contemporary and classical pieces that have been intentionally chosen to represent the experiences of our students and potential clinical applications of these works in music therapy practice. Blind Hollow Yurt Backcountry Skiing/Boarding

We are heading up to the Blind Hollow yurt to spend the weekend enjoying the Bear River backcountry. We will explore some of the fantastic riding terrain around Blind Hollow and spend the evenings around the fire in the comforts of the OP's yurt. Prior backcountry experience is recommended and participants must be expert/advanced riders (able to comfortably ride black diamond western resort terrain). Participants must also be in good physical condition and prepared for strenuous uphill hiking. Winter backcountry travel equipment(Alpine Touring, Telemark, Splitboard) is required and available to rent from the OP for a nominal fee. NO SNOWSHOES.
CHaSS Book Proposal Charrette

In the Fall, CHaSS Research hosted a workshop with Darrin Pratt, Director of the University of Colorado Press. Pratt shared best practices for academic press book proposals. To follow up on the advice provided during this workshop, we will be offering a charrette - a hands-on, collaborative peer review - specifically focused on in-progress book proposals. Who: Participation in the charrette is by application and is limited to 12 CHaSS faculty (at any rank or campus), including lecturers and post-docs. Preference, however, will be given to early career scholars and those soon seeking promotion. Workshop format: Faculty will be split into small groups based upon their interests and backgrounds. Each faculty member will share their book proposal (in the stage or format that it’s in) prior to the workshop with their group to receive targeted feedback. Participants will each review 1 or 2 book proposals. The workshop will also include an overview of “best practices” for book proposals and summary remarks. In this workshop we will go over how to 1) get rid of extra content and simplify navigation, 2) get rid of broken links and make sure your content is published, 3) embed and caption your videos to make them more usable for everyone, and 4) provide content in user-friendly formats that work well on mobile devices.

13,000+ Years of Indigenous History in Eastern Utah
Lecture/Readings
Eastern Utah is well-known for the spectacular rock art found in places like Nine Mile Canyon and the Puebloan architecture of Bears Ears National Monument and other landscapes. But the stories of the indigenous people who have called this land home for millennia are also preserved in much less notable sites that reflect the ephemera of daily activities such as cooking a meal or making a tool. Join Dr. Tim Riley as he explores the material history of this landscape with a focus on how we can learn more about people from the objects they left behind and how we can visit these places today with minimal impact and maximal respect.

Engineering State
Special Event | Inclusive Excellence
A fun-filled overnight experience for students entering their senior year of high school. Participants will explore an apocalyptic world by engineering and problem-solving ways to find shelter, clean food and water, infrastructure, and more. There are two identical sessions of Engineering State in 2025. The first session is June 12-13 and the second session is June 17-18. The camp is on the USU Logan campus and students stay in dorms.
