Youth Protection

Utah State University is committed to providing safe and supportive environments and meaningful experiences for minors participating in university-run or -affiliated camps, programs, activities and events.

Each year, the university offers many coordinated opportunities for minors to visit our campus. The programs introduce minors to the traditions of the university while providing them with a robust collegiate experience. More importantly, these programs are essential to our mission at the university, because these programs introduce minors to our campus and community.

To help provide these safe environments and life-changing experiences, Utah State University has adopted USU Policy 534: Protection of Minors to set requirements for all youth programs sponsored by university entities.

If you have questions about youth protection, covered program requirements, or registering a covered program, please contact USU Risk Management at 435-797-1951 or risk@usu.edu

Covered Programs

USU Policy 534: Protection of Minors applies to all USU sponsored programs and activities whose target audience is minors.  Programs, events, and/or activities that are open to the general public where minors may be in attendance are not necessarily considered covered programs in regard to USU Policy 534.

The program administrator of a covered program is required to register the covered program with USU Risk Management.

Registration include submitting a risk mitigation plan outlining the specific steps program administrators will take to mitigate potential risks to minors participating in the program.
