Project Motivation
USU Project Motivation aimes to empowering minority students through tutoring and mentoring opportunities. Through the project, we hope to have a positive impact on their rates of graduation and pursuit of higher education.
Mission Statement
During the past year, the USU chapter of Latinos in Action and the Latinx Cultural Center have been committed to empowering Latino youth in the Cache Valley.
Through our experience, we have determined that students at Logan High School are in need of more support in their academic journey. USU Project Motivation was started by Melissa Alarcon and George Garcia to help fill this need, endorsed by both Latinos in Action and Utah State University Educational Outreach.
Funded by the Ivory Prize Foundation’s Community Engagement Grant, it aims to improve the graduation rates among minority students at Logan High School, who have historically suffered from an over 50% dropout rate. By empowering minority students through tutoring and mentoring opportunities, we hope to have a positive impact on their rates of graduation and pursuit of higher education. This program is run by Utah State University Educational Outreach employees through the America Reads Program and student volunteers.
The Latinx Cultural Center stands by these goals and is proud to co-sponsor Project Motivation.
Mentoring Opportunity
As part of their mission, USU Project Motivation is looking for students who are passionate about helping their community. Someone who cares about uplifting students who want to better themselves but just don't know how. If you feel that you are someone who fits these expectations, please apply to be a student mentor!
