Social Action Areas & Programs

Our Social Action Leads and Student Directors coordinate service on campus and in the wider community. All Aggies are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and help out! Join the Service Center in AggiePulse to get up-to-date information about all the opportunities in these areas.

Healthy Communities

Get involved with COSAS Healthy Communities Social Action initiatives! Work with local organizations on donation drives, community events, and other initiatives to make Logan and Cache Valley a healthy place to live and grow.

Community Rakes and Shovels

This program was created by COSAS in response to needs expressed by community members. COSAS matches requests for services from local senior citizens and people with disabilities with USU volunteers who are willing to lend a hand.

Interested? Submit a registration form and you will be assigned to a resident (or multiple residents) in the neighborhood of your choice. The resident will reach out to you to request your help throughout the winter season. If you aren't available at a particular time, the resident can reach out to the other volunteers on their list.

Cache Community Gleaning

Fighting hunger in Cache Valley by harvesting produce that would otherwise go to waste!

The COSAS Cache Community Gleaning program coordinates available ready-to-harvest produce from tree and garden owners with volunteers to pick. Harvested fruit goes to the USU Student Nutrition Access Center, Cache Community Food Pantry and Utah Families Feeding Families.

Fruit tree gleaning typically begins the first week of July and runs through the fall harvest season.

American Red Cross Blood Drives

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Blood is essential to help patients survive surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. This lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. The need for blood is constant, but only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly! You can help the American Red Cross make sure that supply meets demand. This COSAS Healthy Communities initiative needs students to donate blood and also volunteer at check-in and snack tables during blood drives.

Log in to AggiePulse to find when you can donate or volunteer at the next drive.
