About UCC's Individual Placement AmeriCorps Program

Utah Conservation Corps' Individual Placement Program connects AmeriCorps service to non-profit and government organizations addressing environmental stewardship, education, and sustainability in Utah.

UCC's Individual Placement AmeriCorps members serve with one UCC partner organization for their entire Term of Service. While serving, Individual Placement members have the opportunity to gain professional development and experience in the environmental non-profit and conservation fields through their host site. Additionally, they have access to AmeriCorps benefits and training related to environmental education and volunteer management.

Utah Conservation Corps partners with a variety of non-profits organizations, government agencies, and schools. The list of partners hosting UCC Individual Placement members changes year to year, and service activities vary by site. Below are some of UCC's current and past partners.

How to Get Involved

Each partnering site conducts their own hiring (advertising, application, and selection) process for their UCC AmeriCorps position(s). Hiring for many full-time, full year positions occurs November and December with a start date of January or February of the following year. Seasonal and part-time positions are hired throughout the year.

The Utah State University Sustainability Council is comprised of USU faculty, staff, and students committed to the development and promotion of sustainable practices on campus. The council is organized into several committees to implement outreach, education, and conservation efforts.

The USU Permaculture Initiative has provided research, teaching, and outreach on permaculture design through USU Extension Sustainability. This includes permaculture as a community resiliency design framework in light of projected climate change impacts for the Southwest.

Aggie Blue Bikes

Aggie Blue Bikes (ABB) is a community oriented on-campus bicycle rental and repair shop. Aggie Blue Bikes receives its funding from student tuition, and receives approximately $1.11 per student, per semester. ABB employs trained mechanics who can teach customers how to repair their bicycles. Mechanics are trained to be non-elitist and welcoming for all skill levels.

The Val R. Christensen Service Center and the Student Sustainability Office (COSAS) have joined forces to become the Christensen Office of Social Action and Sustainability (COSAS). Through Social Action and Sustainability programming, COSAS gives students opportunities to engage with the greater community and become life-long active citizens.

Student Nutrition Access Center (SNAC)

The Student Nutrition Access Center, or SNAC, is the location of USU's food pantry. Our mission is to increase access to nutritious food while educating Aggies about basic needs resources, and sustainable food practices. SNAC is fully supported by fundraisers, not student fees, so anyone in the USU Community can access the services and resources.

Student Organic Farm

If you like gardening, the USU Student Organic Farm is for you. The student-run farm provides hands-on experience growing organic food. Produce is sold on campus weekly and through a community supported agriculture (CSA) program.
