UCC Identity Based Crews
DIVERSITY is a static measure of how well our Conservation Crews reflect all populations within our society. INCLUSION, on the other hand, requires ACTION. Action to make sure we are doing this well.
UCC's Identity-Based Crews are designed to promote access to careers in environmental conservation for individuals that have been traditionally under-represented in conservation fields. Members of Identity-Based Crews receive technical skills training in an inclusive learning space alongside peers, leadership, and staff.
Our staff actively work to ensure that ALL UCC Crews provide welcoming and inclusive environs, but if an identity based crew would be the best fit for you, please check these out and contact UCC staff if you have questions.
Women’s Chainsaw Crew
The UCC Women’s Chainsaw Crew is for women (transgender and cisgender) as well as non-binary people who identify with the women’s community. This crew is to empower women in the field of environmental conservation by providing a supportive environment, positive experience, and specialized training. Women’s Chainsaw Crew members will participate in S130 (Firefighter Training), S190 (Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior), and will have the option to qualify through UCC National USFS Chainsaw Program as an A faller, apprentice sawyer.
The Women's Chainsaw Crew will base out of the Cedar City, UT Field Office during the 2022 Fall Season (August 17 - November 12, 2022).

Accessibility Crews
UCC Accessibilty Crews are mixed-ability crews that seek to foster an environment where people with disabilities have opportunities to participate in environmental conservation efforts in a welcoming, inclusive space. Accessibility crews are welcoming to people of all abilities. These crews will be collecting and inputting accessibility data and photos of developed recreation sites on the Payette, Boise, Salmon-Challis and part of the Caribou-Targhee National Forests in Idaho. Crew members will have the opportunity to work with the US Forest Service and others people of all abilities as a team.
Accessibility crews will base out of the Logan, UT Field Office during the 2022 Summer Season (May 25 - August 14, 2022).

LGBTQ+ Inclusive Crew
The UCC LGBTQ+ Inclusive Crew seeks to create a safe and non-judgmental space for all regardless of gender or sexual identity. We value respect (of names, pronouns, orientation, gender, and philosophies), confidentiality, boundaries (both physical and auditory), and maintaining a safe space for all. In alignment with UCC’s commitment to an inclusive culture of community and service in a safe and positive environment, ideal candidates will share the belief that everyone should feel safe and included in the field of environmental conservation. Members on this crew will serve on conservation related projects.
