FAQ

How much do the three month rentals cost?

The three month rentals are completely free if you're a student currently taking classes! However, if the bike comes back damaged, late, or doesn't come back at all, then you will have to pay fees. If you're not taking classes, then it is just a $5 checkout fee.

Who can check out a three month rental?

Any active (currently enrolled) student with a valid A-number can check out a three month rental. You have to log in to USU's website at the shop to fill out paperwork prior to renting a bike. USU employees can check out a three month bike rental for only $30. Spouses of USU students can rent out a three month rental, but they have to buy the spouse pass from USU first.

What type of bikes are the three month rentals?

All of our three month rental bikes are bikes that have been donated to the shop and fixed up by our mechanics. Most of the bikes are vintage hybrid mountain bikes, but only a few have shocks. There are also a few road bikes available for three month checkouts. For safety reason, these bikes are only for road use, no mountain biking is allowed on our bikes!

What do I need to do to get a three month rental?

Our three month rentals system is first come, first served, but sometimes we take reservations. Different times of the year are more popular times to rent the bikes, making them harder to check out. Early fall, late spring, and early summer are extremely high demand times at the shop, while winter and the middle of the summer are typically low demand times. The best way to get a bike during our high demand times is to come to the shop early, as some people line up to get bikes before we are even open in the morning. During low demand times, you can show up at the shop any time during the day and you will probably be able to check out a bike. If there is a bike available for you, you will have to do a few things before you can take the bike. First, you must have a bike lock with you or buy one from the shop. We highly encourage u-locks, but a cable lock that is at least 10mm also works. Second, you will have to fill out paperwork and liability forms. Third, you will have to take a simple bike safety quiz. Once all of this is completed, the bike will be checked out to you!

What happens if the bike is stolen or lost when I have it checked out?

Lost or stolen bikes are the worst... the first thing you should do is contact Aggie Blue Bikes for the serial number of your bike. After that, the second thing to do is contact USU police and report your bike stolen (you'll give them the bike's serial number and fill out a report). Unfortunately, if your bike is stolen or lost when you have it checked out, there will be a $350 fee, which you have until the end of the check out period to pay. This is why we encourage using u-locks, as they are ,uch more secure than cable locks.

What's the deal with bike registration?

If you have your own bike, registering it is a great idea! We have registration forms at the shop that you'll fill out and take to the USU police. If a registered bike is stolen, it has a much higher chance of being foud. Additionally, if your lock freezes or gest stuck, you can verify that the bicycle is yours through the campus police and they can help you cut the lock.

How do the two week check ups work?

If you have a three month bike rental, you'll need to bring it in around every two weeks for basic maintenance. Even if you are not actively riding your rental, you still need to bring it in for check ups. During these check ups, we will ask if the bike has been having any problems, and if not then the check up will only take around 5 minutes. If there are problems with your rental, our mechanics will fix it. Failure to bring a bicycle in for a checkup will result in a fine.

Can a friend check out / check in a bike for me?

No. When you check out a bike you are taking full responsibility for it, which includes checking it back in at the end of the rental period. If you are going on a long trip or going home for the summer, make sure to return your bike before you leave. There will be a $25 charge if someone else returns your bike.

Can I bring my personal bike for a tune up?

Absolutely! Our mechanics won't work on your bike for you, but they will help and teach you everything you need to know about fixing up your bike! If you aren't sure what is wrong with your bike, bring it in and our mechanics can help assess it for you. USU students can access our mechanics and toolboards for free. USU employees and community members can access our mechanics and toolboards for $6 per hour.
