What is a Career Focus Area (CFA)?

There are six Career Focus Areas that are targeted towards a specific industry. The six Career Focus Areas are in Agriculture & Natural Resources, Biological & Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering & Math, Business & Communication, Social Sciences & Human Services, and Humanities & Arts. Students will work with an Integrated Studies advisor to choose a Career Focus Area that best fits the courses you have already taken and your academic and career goals.

What are the requirements to major in Integrated Studies?

To be eligible for Integrated Studies, students need 12 USU credits, a 2.0 GPA, and 60 total earned credits.

What are the requirements to graduate in Integrated Studies?

Students must complete all Undergraduate Degree Requirements, complete the capstone courses in Integrated Studies and 30 credits of upper-division (3000-levels or higher) in their Career Focus Area.

What are capstone courses?

The two capstone courses are ISTU 3010: Career Exploration & Design (2 credits), and ISTU 4010: Career Design & Planning (1 credit). These courses are designed to help you identify your personal values, interests, personality, and strengths as they relate to career and education opportunities as well as prepare a career portfolio of effective employment documents.

Can I complete this major completely online?

Yes, you can complete the entire degree online. You will need to work with your Integrated Studies advisor to make sure you are taking classes that meet your needs.

Can I get credit for my work or volunteer experience?

Yes! ISTU 4250: Advanced Internship can be taken for 1-6 credits where you can earn credit for a work or volunteer experience. Talk with an Integrated Studies advisor for more details.

What careers can I get with a degree in Integrated Studies?

There are many options available to you! Depending on what Career Focus Area fits you best, you can check out our Careers by Focus Area Handout. You can also schedule an appointment with the Career Design Center to discuss this question with a Career Coach.

Can I earn a minor?

Yes, you can earn a minor. The courses in your minor cannot be included in your Career Focus Area. To ensure you are meeting graduation requirements, please schedule an appointment with an Integrated Studies advisor.

What college is Integrated Studies in?

Integrated Studies is a program within the Provosts Office and is housed in University Advising.

How exciting that you are thinking of returning to complete your degree! Your first step is to meet with an Integrated Studies advisor. We will be able to answer your questions about what credits you have remaining, how to apply to USU, and discuss major options that best meet your career goals.

How do I make an appointment?

Integrated Studies advisors offer in-person, phone, and Zoom appointments. If you live in Logan or Out of Utah, your advisor is Camille Cardon. If you live at a statewide campus, your advisor is Rebecca Berrett. Plan ahead and schedule an appointment with the appropriate advisor.

How do I change my major to Integrated Studies?

Make an appointment with an Integrated Studies advisor (on the phone, zoom, or in person). Once you’ve decided that you want to major in Integrated Studies, complete the Integrated Studies application.
