Dropping A Course

1

Before the Last Day to Add Without Late Fee Deadline

If a student drops a course before the Last Day to Add Without Late Fee deadline, the student will be dropped from the course, receive a full tuition refund, and no notation will be entered on the student's USU transcript.

After the Last Day to Add Without Late Fee Deadline

If a student drops a course after the Last Day to Add Without Late Fee deadline, the student will be dropped from the course, a notation of "W" will be placed on the student's USU transcript, and the student will not receive a refund.

  • A notation of "W" on a transcript does not count towards the GPA calculation but does affect the student's completion rate (the number of credits completed divided by the number of credits attempted). University students receiving financial aid must complete at least 68% of the credits they attempt. Having too many W's on your transcript can negatively affect your financial aid and academic standing at the university.

After the Last Day to Add or Drop deadline

Students cannot drop from a course after the Last Day to Add or Drop deadline unless there are extenuating circumstances (a non-academic emergency outside of the student's control that occurred during the semester the student was in the class and which affected the student's ability to attend or fully participate in the class).
