General Education Outcome Assessment

If you teach a general education course, you have likely been asked to assess whether students are meeting specific outcomes. Canvas can make the reporting of those outcomes easier. There are two ways to measure the outcomes:

  1. Use an assignment at the beginning of class and one at the end of class. Develop a rubric in Canvas that will allow you to select student's current level of competence in the given outcome. You will need to rank each student on the outcome.
  2. Tie the general education outcomes to a question bank and include the question bank in a quiz at the beginning of class and one at the end. You can set a threshold percentage that will be used to determine if the student has met the outcome, based on his or her score from the questions included in the test bank.
  3. Set up a quiz that is aligned with a rubric utilizing the outcome criteria.
